Creating Versus Creativity

The driving force- you need a constant supply of energy to purpose your creative goal to fruition. You won’t get it unless you are clear about what your goal is. Are you after a specific result which you would love to see created for its own sake, or are you merely trying to change an existing condition? It’s important to know the difference. Whether you wish to develop a training programme, compose a song, or design some computer software, your goal should not be merely a reaction to existing condition, or mitigate a current dissatisfaction, but to create a new outcome or product.

Creating versus creativity – People tend to confuse the create process with producing something unusual, generally associated with creativity. Often that’s what is produced, but not always. You can create what you want without summoning creativity to your aid. Likewise creativity can produce unusual ideas but nothing more tangible. `Unusual, or inventive’ are not the issue when creating; are you producing what you want to ? That’s the question.

Form versus formula- Fritz stresses that there is no formula for creating, but that it does have a form, consisting of series of steps. If you reduce your creation to a formula, you are working against yourself. Knowing the steps to be taken to get to you goal by your own route will help you get there efficiently.
